Senior coach Scott Gowans has made just one change ahead of Saturday's Elimination Final against the Gold Coast Suns.

Midfielder Paris McCarthy will replace Ruby Sargent-Wilson after recovering from knee soreness in recent weeks. The Irish import has impressed in her first season making her AFLW debut in Round 3 against the Brisbane Lions and playing three more games in the 2023 season.

Speaking to Sydney Swans Media ahead of the match, Gowans said he was pleased to have McCarthy available for the must-win fixture.

"Paris will bring a little bit of speed for us and she’s able to play that defensive forward role for us which will be good," Gowans said.

The Swans won three consecutive games late in the regular season to secure eighth position on the ladder, and an Elimination Final as part of the 2023 NAB AFLW Finals. Gowans attested that the side will need to keep the momentum going to record a win on the Gold Coast. 

"We were able to play Fremantle in a contested-style game which was really good and then the week before was a little but more uncontested, so we know we can play both ways."

Gowans admits Sydney are the "underdogs" going into the clash but is excited at the prospect of growth for the league, particularly in New South Wales and Queensland. 

"It’s exciting for the competition, we need games like this," he said.

"We have to play our best to compete with them.”
