The Sydney Swans have signed local NSW talent Holly Cooper on the final day of the 2023 Expansion U18 Talent Pathway Pre-Signing Period.
The 18-year old who hails from the Cardiff Hawks in Newcastle has been part of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy program and was part of the of the 2023 Allies team this year in the U18 Championships.
She impressed in the midfield for the Allies and when representing the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and also showed her athletic ability at this year's AFL Draft Combine where she was the top ranked athlete, scoring a near-perfect performance across the jumps, sprint and agility testing.
Cooper, who plays for the Manly Wolves in the AFL Sydney competition, has been working incredibly hard on all aspects of her game and has been commuting several times a week to Sydney from Newcastle to give herself the best opportunity to succeed.
Cooper's athleticism and attitude has impressed Sydney Swans AFL Senior Coach Scott Gowans who is excited by her inclusion to the club's list.
"Holly has great balance and poise with the footy in hand and has explosiveness out of contests," Gowans said.
"She is good by both foot and hand and can play as a midfielder or through the wing, we are looking forward to seeing what she can bring next season."
Sydney Swans Executive General Manager- AFLW, Kate Mahony echoed Gowans thoughts.
"Holly has been a member of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy for the last couple of years and her physical attributions show she has the athleticism to play at AFLW level," Mahony said.
"She impressed at the draft combine and as a member of the Allies this year and is an exciting prospect that we are looking forward to her being part of the program."
