There is a fresh and vibrant feel around the Sydney Swans heading into the 2018 season according to senior coach John Longmire.

New faces both on and off the field have revitalised the club’s pre-Christmas training program ahead of the Christmas break.

Despite not adding any new talent to their list during the trade period, seven new recruits found their way onto the Swans list during the National and Rookie Draft.

“All of the kids have been fantastic,” Longmire said.

“It’s been great they’ve been able to actually train, which isn’t always the case when you get draftees.

“McCartin and Ling have done all of that’s been required of them and done really well.

“I always find one of the most exciting things as a coach is when you recruit the kids and they first turn up and you see how they go – it’s really rewarding.”

Meantime in the coaches box the Club has added Steve Johnson, Dean Cox, Tadgh Kennelly and Jeremy Laidler to bring fresh ideas to training and the game plan.

Longmire said it was pleasing to see how new coaches had approached the pre-season so far.

“It’s a different set of eyes on what we do and they’ve all got their own thoughts and ideas on how to play the game, that’s been good,” he said.

“It is about understanding what our core foundation is as a team but adding bits and pieces that we think can make us better.

“It’s been great, no doubt it’s a different group, but hopefully the players have enjoyed it.

“We’re really confident we’ve got a good coaching group.”

The playing group will have their final training session of the year on Friday before having a two week break over the Christmas period.
