Experienced trio Adam Goodes, Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Nick Smith all return to the Swans squad for this weekend’s clash with Hawthorn at Launceston’s Aurora Stadium.

Swans big man Tommy Walsh has also been included in the extended squad for the second week in a row, with injured forward Gary Rohan the only confirmed out at this stage.

Swans coach John Longmire said it was great to see Adam Goodes’ name back in the squad for Sunday’s important clash.

“We haven’t seen Goodes’ name in the out column too many times fortunately over the years, and it’s great to have him back in the team,” Longmire told sydneyswans.com.au.

“He is a self -admitted poor watcher of football, so he’s glad to get back as well.”

Goodes will return from suspension to play his record-breaking 304th game for the club, which Longmire said he hoped will be celebrated on a high note for the club.

“It’s a big game for Adam, playing his record breaking game,” he said.

“It’s significant for both Adam and the footy club, but it makes it more significant if you win, and that’s what Adam’s focus is on.”

Longmire said the inclusion of Lewis Robert-Thomson and Nick Smith, who have both returned to the squad after being sidelined for two weeks, will depend on how they pull up from the team’s final training session tomorrow.

“Lewie and Nick both trained really well. Nick trained last Friday for a couple of drills and Lewie ran,” he said.

“On Monday, and again yesterday, they both trained really well, so we’re expecting them to train Friday and then it’s just a matter of how they pull up and how they feel within themselves.”

Longmire said Roberts-Thomson’s inclusion adds flexibility to the mix in this weekend’s important match in Tasmania.

“Lewie is capable of playing in a few roles. If he feels training-wise that he’s going OK and he’s really comfortable, he will come into the mix and he can play anywhere.

“We’re fortunate that Jesse White played pretty well last week and (Mark) Seaby as well, so it gives us a bit of flexibility and a bit of depth and we can play them in a few different roles if required.”

If proven fit, Smith is a likely candidate to take on talented Hawk Cyril Rioli, but Longmire said playing on Cyril is not a one-man job.

“It depends a bit on how Nick is, but we think we’ve got a couple of players who will have to go to him because he’s so good.”

Longmire added that the Swans backline will share the job of containing big Hawk Lance Franklin.

“As we always do, we’ll have a few different options for them and it’s not just about one player,” he said.

“Our defenders Heath Grundy, Ted Richards and Alex Johnson have been doing a pretty good job for us down back, and they will all take turns at Buddy at different times.”
