Mummy back on track
Shane Mumford has jumped through all the hoops and will return to the field on Sunday …
SHANE Mumford completed the full training session today and will make his comeback from injury against Carlton on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.
He will come into the team for Trent Dennis-Lane, who has been ill all week and has only trained once.
“Mummy did all the training so he has completed the week, he has trained well and pulled up well so he will play,’’ coach John Longmire said.
There are no other changes to the team that beat Richmond at the SCG last Sunday.
Longmire said he was confident that the team could work with three big men in Mumford, Mark Seaby and Lewis Roberts-Thomson, who rucked in Mumford’s three week absence.
“Mark obviously played well last week, we know he is a quality AFL ruckman so Mummy and he hopefully will complement each other well, which allows us a little bit more flexibility with Lewis Roberts-Thomson,’’ Longmire said.
“We have the ability to play him back and forward so we will see how the match-ups pan out. We know up forward he has been a real presence for us, he is good on the ground, that is one of his strengths as a tall player that he is good at ground level and he is a good athlete.’’
Longmire said the West Coast Eagles had been successfully playing four talls in attack this season.
“If you look at the West Coast Eagles they have four players in their forward line most of the time who are over 190cms so it can be done.
“What we are confident in is that the players we have got are really versatile. If you look at Shane Mumford, he is a big man but athletic and mobile and good below his knees. Lewis Roberts-Thomson is the same, he is really athletic, and one of the best runners at the club.
“Adam Goodes, while he is 194cms he has won a Brownlow Medal as an AFL midfielder and he is the quickest bloke on our list so we think he’s very good at ground level .
“And Seabs’ ability last week to win clearances last week was good as well and we know he has played forward at AFL level and done well.’’
