After becoming the first professional sporting club to have a float in the Mardi Gras Parade in 2018, the Sydney Swans will continue to show their support by taking part in one of the biggest events on the LGBTIQA+ calendar and will proudly march in a seventh consecutive Mardi Gras parade this Saturday night.

Representing the club in the march will be Sydney Swans players and staff, AFL representatives, corporate partners including the club’s Official Pride Partner HSBC as well as the Rainbow Swans, the club’s official LGBTIQA+ supporter group.

Adding further sparkle to the occasion, we will also proudly debut our 2024 Pride Guernsey as our float makes its way down  Oxford Street.

The eye-catching new guernsey includes all the colours of pride progress as well as retaining the pride rainbow from the club’s original Pride guernsey.

After several years as hosts, the Swans will this year play the fixture on the road with the Saints taking on hosting duties for the Round 17 game at Marvel Stadium.

The annual fixture was established between the two clubs in 2016 to celebrate diversity and inclusion and ensure everyone feels welcome at the football. The match is also an opportunity to listen, learn and highlight stories from the LGBTIQA+ community.

Executive General Manager- People and Culture, Scott Dalby said the club was proud to be a leader in LGBTIQA+ visibility and inclusivity by once again taking part in the Mardi Gras Parade.

“Visibility is such an important factor in the wellbeing and self-esteem of LGBTIQA+ youth,” Dalby said.

“We are so proud to have 16 players from our AFLW team as part of our group in the parade, actively role modelling inclusivity.

“Our participation in Mardi Gras, along with the delivery of our Diversity Action Plan, wouldn’t be possible without the support of Pride Partner HSBC and Principal Partner QBE.”

“We are very grateful and look forward to having them join us, and our loyal Rainbow Swans supporter group, as we march on Saturday night.”
