March to the Match
150 year celebrations begin this week as we kick off the 2024 AFL season at the SCG on Thursday.
Ahead of our clash with the Melbourne Demons, our 22 players and coaching staff will embark on March to the Match to honour our past, present and emerging athletes, and we need your help in bringing plenty of energy and colour.
All those who have arrived at Swans HQ early will be asked to form a guard of honour to the SCG at 6.25pm where Swans royalty will welcome the team into the stadium.
Longmire: "We look at their strengths, but we can’t forget ours either."
Senior coach John Longmire says his side is prepared for a difficult contest against the Demons during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
"We understand what Melbourne can do well and they’ve been deep in the finals the last few years," Longmire said, touching on his message to players. "They’re an A-grade team. Really high quality so we look at their strengths, but we can’t forget ours either.
“We’ve put time into that and work over the summer in some areas. We need to see how they work out in the next few weeks. Some things will take some time and some adjustments that we’ve made. We’re mindful that we get the balance right on what Melbourne do well and what we do well.”
Grundy, Jordon to make club debut
Brodie Grundy and James Jordon will make their club debut this Thursday on Opening Night. The two players will face their old side in our clash with the Melbourne Demons.
Grundy has played 194 games after making his AFL debut in Round 18 of the 2013 season.
At 23 years of age Jordon has played 65 games. He was recruited to the Demons as pick 33 in the 2018 AFL Draft. He made his debut in 2021.
