Welcome to our new series Behind the Banner. To celebrate 150 years of South Melbourne and the Sydney Swans, banners throughout the 2024 AFL season will be a nod to our long history.
For Opening Round our cheer squad looked to Round 18, 2004 where we once came up against a strong Brisbane outfit - Heritage Round. Led by senior coach Paul Roos the Swans orchestrated an incredible 32-point victory against the Lions.
It's almost fitting that 20 years later, as we honour our heritage once again, that a new Swans contingent would go on to secure a 22-point win over the Melbourne Demons.
Sydney had another reason for celebration. Jared Crouch also played his 150th consecutive game since debut.
