The Sydney Swans is saddened to hear the passing of Michael Raft, a generous club patron.

Michael sat on the transition board during the Swans move to Sydney and is credited in helping keep the club afloat during periods of financial stress.

Former Swans player and coach Rick Quade described Michael as a “player’s man” who was known for hosting athletes and partners at his home.

Close friend and Swans Hall of Famer Craig Kimberley said he was a “passionate supporter”.

“Rick Quade and I were his closest friends, and we’d talk with him every week on the football,” Kimberley said.

“When he was able, he attended every game in Melbourne at Lake Oval and he was a big contributor financially when we had just 2,500 members.”

Michael’s son John remains a passionate Sydney Swans supporter.

We share our condolences with Michael’s friends and family, including wife Julie, who he met through their shared connection with the Swans.
