AFL to review Swans' cap
The AFL will review the Swans' cost of living allowance which grants the club an extra 9.8 per cent in its salary cap
THE SYDNEY Swans and GWS could have their cost-of-living allowance reviewed with the AFL Commission to reassess the financial burden of living in the Harbour City.
Both clubs are granted an extra 9.8 per cent in their salary cap because of the additional expense associated with residing in Sydney
While the AFL believes there shouldn't be a "kneejerk reaction" to the fact the Swans won last month's Grand Final - combined with the fact they remain placed to offer a preferable deal to Adelaide's Kurt Tippett - the League will review how much extra the Swans currently receive.
"It was discussed at the [AFL] Commission yesterday and the commission did feel, not because of the Sydney Swans and the kneejerk reaction, that the last time we reviewed this was five years ago," AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou said on Tuesday.
"Maybe it is appropriate we collate more information, all the bureau of statistics information, get some experts involved, some third parties and get some more information.
"We'll bring it back to the commission to have a look at."
