Kurt Tippett and Nick Davis are urging Swans supporters to give generously to the 2015 Cyclone Pam Vanuatu Appeal.
In light of the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Pam on the Pacific archipelago last week, the full-forward and development coach have rallied support to assist hundreds of thousands of people left without shelter, clean water and proper healthcare.
Tippett and Davis encouraged teammates earlier in the week to surrender their old training gear and footwear while the club’s staff has also pitched in.
The effort has culminated in plenty of red and white which will soon be sent to assist aid efforts.
“First thing we thought, since they were so great and welcoming to us, how we could help as much as we can straight away,” Davis said, who flagged a potential return trip during the Swans’ mid-season break.
The deadly cyclone, in which winds reached 270 km/h, tore through the Pacific Island and surrounding nations.
Tippett and Davis, who spent time in Vanuatu with the local under 16s AFL side during the off-season, were deeply touched and wanted to do everything in their power to help.
“We knew Vanuatu was right in the path of the cyclone so we were so worried for the people and the kids,” Tippett.
“Having been there and seeing how their villages were built, it wasn’t going to stand up to a cyclone.
“We just wanted to help out in any way we could.”
