Senior Coach John Longmire spoke on Fox Footy's AFL360 program on Monday evening, here's the key quotes from his chat with Gerard and Robbo.
On the loss to Richmond:
It was pretty clear (what the Swans needed to be better at). We just have to be stronger defensively and I have always believed on being strong without the ball. If you are really strong without the ball it gives you the opportunity to score. You have to make sure you win the contest or break even in the contest and we were able to do that at times but not as consistently as what we would have liked. We are normally very good without the ball and we are able to set up a lot of scoring opportunities with the work rate without the ball. On Sunday we only had 44 tackles and we didn't pressure as much as what we do. It was about our system and a bit about our intent and just getting that sorted at the coalface.
To be the fair the players have been fantastic (in the review) and it was five points in the end. Richmond were fantastic and played a really good brand of footy. We could have played better and we need to get that part of the game right.
On Dane Rampe's hamstring
I have got my fingers crossed, he gets a scan tomorrow. Knowing what Dane is like I am more hopeful than expecting that it will be ok. We subbed him, he wouldn't have come off if he felt good. So I am hopeful.
On Taylor Adams
I would like him to be available (to play West Coast in Adelaide this week). He got through two and a half quarters in the VFL, if he gets through training and pulls up well he will be in the frame for selection this week. He has been such an asset to our place since he arrived.
Apart from Isaac, our midfield group is 23 and under, it's a young midfield group. This is one of the reasons we were keen to get Taylor and he has been enormous over the preseason. I am really hopeful if he gets through this week he will be right in the frame for selection for his first game.
