Sydney Swans defender Heath Grundy will make his return to the side in tomorrow night’s Preliminary Final against Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.

Grundy, who missed the Qualifying Final through suspension, replaces Ben McGlynn, who will miss tomorrow’s final after injuring his hamstring in the Swans’ win over Adelaide a fortnight ago.

Swans coach John Longmire said Grundy will be a fit and fresh inclusion to his side tomorrow night.

“(Grundy) obviously missed that final but he’s been training hard through this two week slot,” Longmire told SwansTV.

“He’s had a big workload during the year as well so he should be nice and fresh.”

Grundy and his fellow Swans defenders will have the task of quelling the influence of strong-marking forwards Travis Cloke and Chris Dawes in tomorrow night’s game.

Longmire said Swans utility Lewis Roberts-Thomson, who was played down back in Grundy’ absence last match, could be called upon to assist in defence again this week.

“(Cloke and Dawes) are two quality big, key forwards down there so it will be a challenge for those blokes (in the Swans defence),” he said.

“Lewis Roberts-Thomson did a good job last (game), so he is an option down there as well, but Collingwood have quality players all over the ground and we can’t let their forwards have too much supply.”

Longmire also highlighted the importance of the ruck battle in tomorrow’s Preliminary Final, and said Swans ruckmen Shane Mumford and Mike Pyke have a challenge on their hands in stopping Magpies’ big man Darren Jolly.

“We think our ruckmen have had a pretty good, solid year and I thought that last time against Adelaide they did pretty well, but we come up against an absolute quality opponent this week in Darren Jolly who is experienced at this time of the year,” Longmire said.

“He is big and strong and he knows what’s going on, so it’s a challenge for our ruckmen but I’m sure it’s one they’re looking forward to.”

With the game set to attract the Swans biggest home crowd for the season, Longmire said the team were excited to take on Collingwood on the big stage this week.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Longmire said.

“It’s a chance to play in a big game and look at our processes and making sure our game plan and pressure work really stands up and that’s what we put our faith in and that’s what we’re hoping to bring.”
