In a match that tested their mettle, the Sydney Swans VFL side showcased resilience to overcome a late charge from Greater Western Sydney, securing an 12.13 (85) - 11.9 (75) victory. 

The game opened with a Cooper Vickery goal setting a positive tone for the Swans, before James Lugsdin followed up by weaving through traffic to score from 40 meters out. Caiden Cleary added a third with a precise kick from a challenging angle just inside the 50.

Angus Sheldrick was prominent from the start, with 11 disposals in the first term. As the first quarter ended, Joel Hamling converted a crucial goal from a mark inside 50, putting the Swans up 27-21 at the first break.

After a solid start to the second quarter from GWS, Jacob Konstanty managed to put the Swans back in front with a key goal. Lugsdin continued his impressive form by booting his second, while Braeden Campbell's defensive efforts were also crucial, leading the team with five tackles at the halftime break. The Swans took a 42-30 lead at the halfway point.

As the third quarter kicked off, Luke Parker extended Sydney’s lead, and Caleb Mitchell kicked a ripper of a goal from the 50-meter line. Hamling’s precise execution from the back right pocket just before the third-quarter siren further pushed the Swans ahead to 67-44.

Despite a challenging start to the final term, where the opposition kicked the first four majors of the quarter, Lugsdin and Hamling combined to steady the ship. Luke Parker finished with a team-high 35 touches, three tackles and a goal in his second game back from injury. Sheldrick was terrific with 27 disposals and six tackles, while Braeden Campbell had 22 disposals and a team-high seven tackles.

The Sydney Swans will now prepare to face North Melbourne at Arden Street Oval on Saturday, May 11, at 12:05pm, looking to build on their winning momentum.
