Former captain and 2012 Premiership player Josh Kennedy has been named an ambassador for the Sydney Swans Foundation. In his new role Kennedy will assist in supporting fundraising efforts to secure the future of the club.
Kennedy shared his gratitude for the position which allows him to give back to the sport.
“The role is a further connection to the club that has meant so much to me over a long period of my life,” he said in an interview.
“Understanding what the Foundations does at a deeper level really aligns to my values. Giving back to the community through football and connecting members and fans to the club – not just the club today, but over the last 150 years.”
To coincide with the club’s anniversary celebrations, the Foundation is currently raising funds to aid in the completion of the museum at Sydney Swans HQ. The museum will enable fans to experience the club’s rich history of people, moments, and connections over 150 years.
Kennedy continued, “Being able to see that in a physical sense in a museum, and being able to walk through it, both as a player and a spectator, is really important to the development and growth of the footy club.”
Kennedy was recruited to Hawthorn in 2007 under the father-son rule before making his debut in 2008. At the end of the 2009 season, he was traded to the Sydney Swans and went on to play 13 seasons in the red and white.
In addition to the generous support of principal partner QBE, the Sydney Swans Foundation plays a vital role in investing in the growth and development of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and AFLW squad. The success of these programs in New South Wales would not have been possible without the support of donations and bequests.
“[These programs] have been a foundation for growth and gives access to kids to play and to spread awareness. And at the real pointy end to receive great coaching,” he noted.
The Sydney Swans Foundation is dedicated to securing the future of the club. Thanks to the support of generous donors, Sydney Swans Foundation can provide vital funding to the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. The Academy not only ensures that the Sydney Swans have the best talent on the field, but assists in equipping individuals for off field success .
