Our club was born at Temperance Hall at what was then known as Emerald Hill, on June 19, 1874.
A group met to form a football club, which four weeks later became officially known as the South Melbourne Football Club.
From Emerald Hill to the Emerald City, we have come a long way. Two cities; two teams; one club.
Our club’s trademarks have been grit, hard work, and determination. We’ve had to fight to survive. But we have endured and thrived.
We’ve had players who have become part of football folklore; the likes of Bob Skilton, Peter Bedford, Roy Cazaly, and Norm Smith, through to modern day greats such as Adam Goodes, Paul Kelly, Tony Lockett and Lance Franklin.
Today, watching the likes of Mills, Heeney, Gulden, Molloy, and McEvoy running out in the red and white is enough to give anyone goosebumps.
Happy birthday Sydney Swans! Cheer, cheer, to 150 years of making memories in red and white.
