Senior coach John Longmire has confirmed captain Callum Mills will return to the AFL on Saturday against North Melbourne at the SCG.

Mills is yet to feature in the AFL this year after injuring his shoulder during the off season, before a calf strain delayed his return to play.

Longmire confirmed in a press conference on Tuesday that Mills will don the red and white this weekend and is confident he has done everything he can to return to full fitness.

"Callum Mills will definitely play senior footy this week," Longmire said.

"We sat down at the bye and worked our a six-week plan to get him up to what he needed to in a football and training sense, and he has been doing that.

"He's (also) been running well before that. He has had a really good block so he will come back into the senior team this week."

Longmire praised Mills for his dedication to his rehabilitation in order to return on schedule.

"He has done a power of work. We've looked through all the numbers and have seen training sessions - all that has done has backed up our eyes and what we have seen in a training sense.

"He's done an enormous amount of work and feels really confident. He knows himself as good as anyone."
