Sam Reid calls time

Veteran Sydney Swan and 2012 premiership player Sam Reid has called time on his 15-year career, effective immediately. This comes after he was subbed out of the VFL on the weekend with a hamstring injury.

Say your goodbye to Reid this weekend at the SCG, when he does a farewell lap at half time.

Robbie Fox’s 100th game

Versatile defender and forward Robbie Fox is preparing to play his 100th game in the red and white. Fox was recruited as a rookie in 2016 from the Coburg Lions and has worked hard to be a regular in the 22.

The 31-year-old is known for his agility, often setting the pace in the preseason 2km time trial. A dedicated Swan, Fox also recently committed to the club until at least the end of 2025.

Injury Update

Tom Papley was sidelined in our game against Brisbane last weekend with a medial ankle ligament injury and will be out for 4 - 6 weeks.

Dane Rampe is also set to miss 1-2 weeks with a low grade calf strain.

Will Hayward has recovered well from a lateral ankle injury. He will be a test to play on Sunday.

Words from the senior coach

In this week’s press conference, John Longmire spoke about what our goal kicking midfield will look like moving forward with several new injuries.

“It's been a real strength over the season. But we'll just have to adapt. Every team goes through some challenges at different times with key personnel missing. It's our opportunity to make the most of that challenge now, so that's just part of football.”

Reflecting on our close two point loss to the Brisbane Lions, Longmire highlighted the importance of standing up in high-pressure moments.

“Three out of our four games, we've had opportunities in the last two minutes to win the game. If you get three of those right, all of a sudden, it's a completely different narrative. We'd fought back a couple of times in the last quarter, despite being under-manned."
