The Sydney Swans VFL side returns to Queensland this weekend for a match up against the Southport Sharks. Head coach Damian Truslove has named his team to take on the home side with six changes.
Mid-season draftee Tom Hanily will return from an ankle injury sustained during training last week. Meanwhile the likes of Byron Laws, Phil Moi Moi and Max Geddes join the side. They're set to replace Aaron Francis and Sam Wicks who were elevated to the AFL squad this week to take on the Western Bulldogs.
Veteran Swan Sam Reid, who has featured throughout the VFL season, announced his retirement on Tuesday morning after sustaining a hamstring injury during last week's game.
Peter Ladhams will be one to watch in Round 18 after finishing last week's match against the Brisbane Lions with 22 disposals and two goals. Caiden Cleary also continues to impress and closed out last week with 21 disposals, nine tackles and a major.
The VFL team suffered another close loss at the hands of a strong Lions outfit going down by just five points at the final siren. Despite the result Truslove expressed pride for the team.
“Our ability to compete really hard for four quarters [was impressive],” Truslove said after the game.
“The boys did that really well. Against a really strong Brisbane team in tough conditions away from home, the attitude and the effort was excellent.”
Round 18 is the Swans' final away game of the regular season with two clashes scheduled for Tramway Oval. This Saturday's game will take place at Fankhauser Reserve, Southport from 12:05pm.
