The Sydney Swans can confirm that Chloe Molloy has sustained an injury to her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), ruling her out for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Chloe reported knee soreness following training on Friday with scans later confirmed she suffered an ACL injury.

Molloy featured in the season opening victory over Collingwood and was due to play in today’s game against St Kilda.

After the Swans loss to the Saints, Senior Coach Scott Gowans and Molloy both spoke to media with Gowans saying up until last night, Chloe wanted to play, so the Swans group thought it might be just a knee ailment, but unfortunately the worst was confirmed by the doctor but this morning.

Gowans said he was devastated to lose Molloy for the remainder of the 2024 season.

"What Chloe offers, she is irreplaceable," Gowans said.

"We have the philosophy of the next solder in though and that's what we will work towards but there's no getting away from it being devastating. My heart goes out to her.

"Knowing Chloe, she will be attacking the rehab extremely hard and trying to get back for Round 1 next year."

Sydney Swans players weren't told of Molloy's scan results prior to their Round 2 fixture against St Kilda with Molloy wanting the focus to be on the game.

"We just decided we would let the players play," Gowans said.

"Being the leader that she is, it was really important for us to let the focus be on the game, she was adamant that it should be that way so we were comfortable with that.

"Chloe spoke to the group after the game and she spoke brilliantly, very composed as the leader she is."

Molloy said it has been an emotional 24 hours once the scan results were known.

"It's a bit of disbelief, you never think it's going to be you," Molloy said.

"The immediate response is you hear ACL and you go 'wow I never thought I would have that injury'.

"I've been emotional, I've cried, I give so much to football, there are so many expectations on me that my immediate response was that I thought I had let down a lot of people.

"I guess I now look at it as an opportunity, I've got to find other ways to give, I'm a co-captain, I can't be physically out there so I have to find other ways."
