The Sydney Swans AFLW side fell short to a strong St Kilda outfit on Sunday afternoon in Round 2 of the 2024 NAB AFLW season. The team now turn their attention to a clash with Richmond in our second home of Coffs Harbour.

Assistant coach Tanya Hetherington has shared her take ahead of Round 3.

Unfortunately, a really tough game on Sunday. Can you explain what the conditions were like for people watching at home?

Though not an excuse, the conditions were very tricky on Sunday with a strong breeze followed by significant rain. Unfortunately, we didn’t adjust to the conditions as quickly as we would have liked.

The team lifted in the final term. What was the message to players in the breaks?

We adjusted a few structural things on the field and we just wanted the girls to execute them to give themselves the best chance of scoring.

To their credit that last quarter was the most we looked like ourselves all game.

Lara Hausegger made her AFLW debut against the Saints. How did she perform?

Lara has been a great asset to our program since she arrived, so it was pleasing to see her debut in her home town last weekend. You saw her composure and her ability to flick the handball out to a teammate in traffic and we look forward to Lara feeling more and more comfortable the more she puts on the jumper.

We look to a clash with Richmond in Round 3. What are you focusing in training this week?

We let ourselves down with contested ball, especially early so this will be a priority for us this week.

How excited is the team to take our home game to Coffs Harbour this weekend?

The team is so excited to take our game to Coffs Harbour this weekend and we really hope our members and fans get behind us and cheer loud and proud!
