LATE CHANGE:

The Sydney Swans have made one late change ahead of today’s game against Richmond, with Aimee Whelan coming in for Alana Woodward.

Woodward has sustained a partial tear of her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Woodward reported the knee injury during Thursday night’s training session, with scans later confirming the injury. The 34-year-old was due to return from a hand injury to face Richmond on Saturday.

She will now undertake further assessment by our medical team and specialist consultation to determine the management of her injury.

The Sydney Swans have four changes to their side for Round 3 to face Richmond in Coffs Harbour on Saturday afternoon.

QBE Sydney Swans Academy product Holly Cooper will make her debut while Lexi Hamilton and Alana Woodward will make their first appearances of 2024. Maddy Collier will also return to the side after missing last week's game after sustaining a concussion in Round 1.

Cynthia Hamilton has been ruled out of the match due to a quad injury late in training on Thursday. She will be assessed by medical staff in coming days.

Also out of the side are Ally Morphett (managed), Kiara Hillier (omitted) and Eliza Vale (omitted).

The Swans will also be without co-captain Chloe Molloy, who was last week ruled out for the season, suffering an ACL injury at training.

Sydney Swans coach Scott Gowans said the loss of Molloy and fellow 2024 All-Australian Ally Morphett (for this fixture) was a blow but that there was plenty of depth to his squad.

"The positive we have is that someone else can step up," Gowans said.

"We have a couple of All-Australians out of the team which isn't ideal, but unfortunately that is just part of the process.  I am looking forward to seeing what we can do."

Despite the loss against the Saints last week, the Swans took plenty from the game, particularly the second half and Gowans said he was looking forward to seeing how his side would bounce back.

"The main thing for us (last week) was our first half, we got the game on our terms from half time so to play well for a half is frustrating," Gowans said.

"We have to get off to a good start. Our contest work has to improve and we have done a lot of work on that this week, so I think we will get a good response.

Gowans also said he was thrilled to give 19-year old Holly Cooper her opportunity after she had put in a solid first pre-season after joining the club from the QBE Swans Academy as part of the 2023 Expansion U18 Talent Pathway Pre-Signing Period.

"Holly has just worked so hard," Gowans said.

"She had some really clear things to work on in preseason and she's done that. She's had a couple of really good scrimmages and she has just pushed her way into the side. She's fast, she's quick and she's exciting."

The fixture against the Tigers is the first official AFLW game in the Coffs region and the team are looking forward to seeing a good turnout from the Swans Northern NSW faithful.

"We have spent a bit of time up there in Coffs," Gowans said.

"It's a beautiful surface and a quick deck and we are looking forward to the fans turning up and supporting us. We will do an open training session tomorrow (Friday), so we are excited to see plenty of red and white."

The open training at C.ex Stadium will commence at 2pm on Friday and first bounce for the Round 3 match on Saturday is 12.35pm.

Please note that in the first version of this article Cynthia Hamilton was named in the team but has been ruled out of the match due to a quad injury late in training on Thursday. She will be assessed by medical staff in coming days. Replacing Cynthia in the original team is Brooke Lochland.
