The 2024 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period commenced today and Sydney Swans Head of List Strategy & Player Personnel Chris Keane spoke to AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey. Here's what Keane had to say:
On Luke Parker:
We haven't started discussions with North Melbourne yet, obviously last week Luke notified us of his intentions to try find a deal with North Melbourne and we will endeavour to do that but obviously he is a contracted player and there are some complications with that, but we will look to have those discussions this week.
It's not as straight forward as people think, we will get to work with North Melbourne and go through that. He is obviously a valuable player to us and has been over the journey. He's been a star of our football club and more widely the AFL community. It (the deal) just needs to represent the fact he is contracted and the opportunity that North Melbourne are providing him.
On the club's 2024 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period activity:
We will probably be a little more quiet (than we were in 2023). We have a couple of good first round picks which we are keen to go to the draft with. It's a pretty deep draft and talented draft, we have just spent three days with the boys at the draft combine, they are an impressive group of kids and we look forward to seeing what we can add in the draft.
On Chad Warner:
Clearly Chad is a fantastic talent, one of the best young talents in the game. We completely understand that and how valuable he is to us. We are talking to his management as we do with all players that are coming out of contract, whether that's 12 or 24 months down the line, we are doing that. I think its a pretty tight knit group and this year we have been about retraining a lot of our key talent, Chad is clearly a part of that and we will do everything we can to keep him.
Luke Parker and Chad Warner are on the agenda as @CalTwomey speaks to Sydney list manager Chris Keane.
