The Sydney Swans head north to take on the defending premiers Brisbane on Sunday evening at Brighton Homes Arena.

The last time these two sides met was in Round 3 of the 2023 season, with the Lions claiming victory by 55 points.

Brisbane head into the clash as the inform favourites, having spent most of the 2024 season at the pointy end of the ladder while the Swans will be looking to break their five-game winless streak.

The Lions have made just one change to their squad, with Dee Heslop coming into the side for Dakota Davidson. The star forward will miss the clash after entering concussion protocols following their Round 8 loss to Geelong.

Lions senior coach Craig Starcevich is confident his side can overcome Davidson’s absence ahead of what he predicts will be a tough contest against the Swans.

“We’ve had to go without her before, so we’ll just have to rejig a few things to get the look that we want in the front half of our ground,” said Starcevich.

“They’ve been right in games, they’re another dangerous opponent. They’re another one that is looking at ways to stifle us, and we need to be ready for whatever is thrown at us tactically to deal with that. We also need to get our vigour, energy and enthusiasm back for the contest.”

The Swans have named two big inclusions in their squad to face Brisbane with Laura Gardiner and Julie O’Sullivan set to return from injury.

Sydney Swans senior coach Scott Gowans will be looking to put his best team forward to take on the reigning premiers.

“We've taken the approach that it's just another challenge for us and the expectation from our perspective is to win," said Gowans.

"It’s a great opportunity to get the learnings out of out of the game that you're going to get out of playing the Premier and it's their home ground. We've got nothing to lose and we just go up there full of hope."

Round 9 and 10 of the 2024 NAB AFLW season also marks Indigenous Round with this year's theme, 'Spirit Strong, Game On'. It celebrates the enduring spirit and significant contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, and their impact on the game.
