The Sydney Swans would like to pay tribute to former player Leslie Jarry, who has passed away in Melbourne aged 96.

Wearing guernsey No. 28, Jarry played 21 games and kicked 10 goals for South Melbourne from 1948-1949. It’s believed he had been the club’s oldest surviving player.

Jarry’s football career began with a season at South Districts in 1946 before moving to Highett FC the following year. He impressed South Melbourne officials, who added him to the club’s list ahead of the 1948 season.

Jarry has been remembered as a kind, generous family man who later in life turned to running to keep fit, achieving the impressive feat of completing a marathon two weeks after his 70th birthday.

He is survived by his four children Lynn, Graham, Anne and Jan, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
