We’re thrilled to announce Six60, one of the hottest bands in Australiasia – and a favourite of us here at the Swans – are set to perform at half-time of our Round 1 match against the Brisbane Lions at the SCG.
The New Zealand group, on a Grassroots Tour across Australia, blend rock, pop and soulful vocals. Among their multi-award-winning hits is Don’t Forget Your Roots which earned 11x platinum, while The Greatest has become a sporting anthem.
The band, formed in Dunedin in 2008, comprises Matiu Walters (lead vocals, guitar), Ji Fraser (lead guitar), Marlon Gerbes (guitar, bass guitar, synthesiser), and Chris Mac (drums, bass guitar, and Cheer Cheer on repeat).
Chris was born in Darwin but spent some of his childhood in Sydney where he developed his love for the Swans. He is the band’s only Australian member and has since converted the others to the red and white.
"To be able to play at one of the world's most iconic venues and to feel the history of the SCG, a place I have been going to since I was a kid, is really special,” Chris Mac said.
“We have had a lot of great nights as a band at the venue – the first AFL game we all attended was the Swans vs the Lions, and now it being the Grand Final rematch, it feels very fitting to be coming back. Up the Bloods.”
On their last trip Down Under, Six60 visited Sydney Swans HQ and performed a special rendition of I See Red – a song by fellow Kiwi band Split Enz that used to be the Swans’ team entry song.
To catch Six60 make sure you’re in your seat at half-time of our Round 1 match at the SCG on Saturday, March 15.
Six60’s Grassroots Tour has shows remaining in Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth and Sydney – with a show next door to our HQ at the Hordern Pavillion on Saturday, March 22.
