Heeney: "Patience is key, but at the same time, we want to bring everyone along as fast as we can and be competitive every week."

Midfielder Isaac Heeney spoke to the media in a press conference on Monday. When asked about the Club's injury list and whether they needed to be patient with players returning, Heeney emphasised the importance of having a whole squad mentality.

"It was a bit of both, I think you've got to be patient but at the same time I think the gap between our younger players and our VFL side is really tightening so it's good to see these young fellas come in and play specific roles and actually play really well," he said.

"Even though we didn't play well on the weekend, we had some real key contributors in the younger fellas that are inexperienced against such a quality and experienced side so patience is key but at the same time, we want to bring everyone along as fast as we can and be competitive every week."

Injury Update

Forward Joel Amartey has been ruled out for 4-6 weeks after he suffered a hamstring strain in the 2nd quarter of Friday’s match against Collingwood.

Harry Cunningham injured his calf whilst completing full team training on the weekend and is expected to be unavailable for 6 weeks.

In good news, Lewis Melican is expected to be available to return to play this weekend, while Callum Mills is progressing his change of direction and running speed, aiming to recommence team training this week.

AFLW intraclub match

The AFLW side recorded an 18-point victory over Adelaide in a practice match last weekend at Tramway Oval.

Forward Rebecca Privitelli said the off-season optional training period was a good opportunity to lay a strong foundation before the pre-season in May.

"I think the build-up to these next couple of games has been really important for us, the girls want to be in and we want to be training," Privitelli said.

"I think the next few weeks will be about playing some footy together and see what works, see what doesn't and to try a few different things and then once we hit the ground in pre-season, it's go time."
