Star midfielder Dan Hannebery is confident his side can take plenty from the 2016 season despite falling short in the premiership decider.
The Swans finished minor premiers, blooding seven debutants along the way before losing by just 22 points to the Western Bulldogs in the Grand Final.
Hannebery joined the Swans leadership group at the start of the season playing an integral role in leading a young midfield group throughout the season.
“From a personal point of view it was a consistent year and I just loved playing with such a young group,” he said.
“It was a bit of extra responsibility for the senior guys but I think it was one of our most enjoyable years seeing the young guys come through.
“It has been a bit challenging, I think it has been good for my football and development outside of footy as well.”
The experience of being a member of the senior leadership group has only spurred Hannebery on to reach greater heights in season 2017.
“I have been trying to help some of the younger guys on game day and away from the game in terms of how they go about things away from the game,” Hannebery said.
“It is something I want to get better at so it has been great to learn off some of the other guys in that group who are outstanding in that area.
“Hopefully we can do all we can as a senior playing group to go one better next year.”
The Grand Final loss will no doubt drive the Swans in their attempt to go one better in season 2017 but Hannebery said it was important to look back on what was achieved in 2016.
“If you sit back, reflect and take some time to realise what the club has done this year then you have to be proud,” he said.
“There was a lot of people doubting the footy club at the start of the season but to come out and become minor premiers, blood seven young guys and to see the development of our younger guys in the NEAFL was great.
“The club is in a really good place so I think moving forward supporters, players and the whole club are really excited about what lies ahead for the footy club.”
