Dan Hannebery’s starring 34-disposal effort and Lance Franklin’s five goal haul weren’t enough to prevent Richmond from pinching an after-the-siren victory on Saturday night, but the Swans pair did catch the attention of the coaches for their outstanding performances.
The two coaches, John Longmire and Damien Hardwick, gave Hannebery six votes and Franklin three votes this round in the race for the AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player of the Year award.
It moves Hannebery into ninth spot, tied with Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs, and Franklin into tenth spot on the overall leaderboard while Luke Parker is in sixth place.
The Swans pair were the only two players in red and white to poll votes in the one-point loss at the MCG.
For the Tigers, Dustin Martin (eight votes), Ben Griffiths (seven votes) and Anthony Miles (six votes) were the vote getters.
