Sydney Swans senior coach Dean Cox has made one change to his side, ahead of the huge Friday night Sydney Derby against the Giants.

Hard-working midfielder Angus Sheldrick returns from suspension, while veteran defender Dane Rampe will be managed.

Sheldrick was in a rich vein of form before his suspension, notching up 25 disposals in the 128-point win over West Coast in Perth.

277-gamer Rampe, who has played 5 games this season, takes a well-earned break.

Director of Coaching & Performance, Simon Goodwin said it was always the plan to rest Rampe early in the season.

“We're obviously pretty open and honest with Ramps at the start of the season. We want to sustain a full season and obviously hopefully go pretty deep”, Goodwin said.

“We spoke about making sure he wasn't going to play every game and obviously we've got two six-day breaks coming up that we wanted to make sure that we managed him in the right way, that he could continue to perform to a higher level.”

Goodwin, who arrived at the Sydney Swans in the pre-season, will be take part in his first Sydney Derby in what is expected to be in front of 40,000 fans at the SCG.

“I love being a part of Derbies,” Goodwin said.

“Obviously as a player being in Adelaide with the Crows and the Power, I experienced that, but to come to Sydney and experience this one, I'm looking forward to it.

“I think it's one our supporters I'm sure look forward to every time it comes around in the calendar.”

Goodwin went on to say the Giants are always a tough opponent.

“They got back into some really good form last week. Clearly their offence is something that is a highlight of their game when it's up and running,” Goodwin said.

“So that's something we've really honed in on within the four walls, but you know the intensity of the derby we're looking forward to.”
