One of the Sydney Swans most loyal supporters, Lorna Cleland, celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday.

Lorna’s granddaughter, Lisa Cleland told sydneyswans.com.au about Lorna’s lifelong passion for the Swans.

“Her passion for the Swans runs so deep that when asked if she was excited about getting a card from the Queen for her 100th birthday, she replied ‘Not really, I’d just like one from the Sydney Swans!’”

Lisa said Lorna’s favorite Swans players over the years have included Bob Pratt, Bob Skilton, Fred Goldsmith, Paul Kelly, Tony Lockett and Adam Goodes and added that her grandmother’s best Swans’ memories included taking her sons to watch games and more recently the 2012 premiership win.

“The 2012 premiership was a real highlight,” Lisa said.

“She was so excited that she struggled to sleep that night.”

Lisa said her grandmother proudly displays both the 2005 and 2012 premiership posters in her room at her aged care facility in Melbourne.

Born in Stawell in country Victoria, Lorna moved to Melbourne when she was 22 years old and developed her love for the Bloods.

Lorna then met her husband Jack Cleland, who coincidently was also a South Melbourne supporter and played some reserves games for South Melbourne Football Club on permit from South Melbourne District FC.

Jack and Lorna had two sons – Russell and Lindsay – who are both avid South Melbourne fans and are current Sydney Swans members. Lorna also has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
