The Sydney Swans will notch up a special milestone when they return home to host Collingwood at the SCG in Round 1 of the 2016 premiership season.
The blockbuster will mark the 350th game the Swans have played on the SCG’s hallowed turf.
It follows successful negotiations between the Swans, the AFL, ANZ Stadium management and the SCG Trust to relocate three matches that had been scheduled at ANZ Stadium.
The matches that will now be played at the SCG include:
- Round 1: Saturday 26 March, Sydney Swans v Collingwood SCG 7.25pm
- Round 7: Saturday 7 May, Sydney Swans v Essendon SCG 4.35pm
- Round 18: Saturday 23 July, Sydney Swans v Carlton SCG 1.45pm
SCG Trust Chief Executive Jamie Barkley says the Trust is thrilled to welcome the Swans home.
“There is nothing better than starting the 2016 AFL season with an absolute blockbuster when the Sydney Swans host Collingwood on Saturday, 26 March – their 350th game at home on the SCG,” Barkley said.
“The Sydney Swans and the SCG Trust boast one of the longest contracts in professional sport, with all AFL home matches and finals to be played at the SCG until 2047.
“We are delighted that the Sydney Swans have been able to reach an arrangement to start our 30-year contract 12 months early.
“This is a massive win for Sydney Swans fans who love watching their team at the SCG. A Sydney Swans match at the SCG is one of the great experiences in live sport and we can’t wait to see what the Sydney Swans and their fans will achieve in the next 30 years at the SCG.”
