Sydney Swans youngster Ollie Florent says consistency is the key after his side’s loss to the top-of-the-table Geelong Cats in Geelong on Saturday night.
The energetic Swans outfit pushed the competitions benchmark side and had their chances, kicking 8.15 in a 22-point loss.
It was a couple of explosive scoring bursts from the home side which really punished the hard working Swans side.
“We were right in it but there was a period in the third quarter, the first ten minutes when we really just let them run away with it and it’s pretty hard to get back from there,” Florent said.
“It’s just a matter of consistency for us, I think the way the boys went about it was really positive. There was a lot of energy and excitement with such a young group.
“Too many honourable losses isn’t great but we will keep learning and it’s good we can keep up with the top teams, we are not far from it.”
Florent picked up 22 disposals in the loss, playing more minutes in the midfield in the absence of co-captain Josh Kennedy who missed the match due to a knee injury.
“I spent a little bit more time in the midfield this week, obviously with Josh Kennedy being out, it was good fun.”
Florent said the team will now regroup ahead of another challenging fixture against the reigning premiers, West Coast on Sunday afternoon at the SCG.
“We will get our bodies and our heads in a space to go out there and have a big crack before the bye,” Florent said.
“We have got a long way to go this season still and the Eagles are going to be a real challenge, we will be doing everything we can to win that’s for sure.”
