Jet’s Journal – working together to take on the Dogs
Jets is enjoying life in Sydney but knows he has plenty of improvement left…
THE weather is getting cold here in Sydney but I’m staying pretty warm having little Lewis in the bed with me at nights.
We put him in his cot and he wakes up every hour and doesn’t get a good sleep so I figure just let him lie with me for a little bit. That is what my dad did with me and so far it’s working and he’s getting some good sleeps
People ask me if this year is harder than last now that we have a baby. I would say last year was the hardest. It was my first year in the system and you don’t know what’s going on, but this year I’ve got more of an understanding.
We had the Swans Hall of Fame event last Saturday night and I was inspired by it.
Every time they showed old footage I got goosebumps just sitting there. I got a lot out of it. It showed what the players before us went through and the tough times they had.
Michael O’Loughlin got inducted into the Hall of Fame and when he spoke he said when we’re players we should make the most of it, never complain about what we have to do.
It is pretty true. When I’m coming in to training in the morning I see all the people on the buses going to work and here I am just going to have a kick around and see the boys at the footy club.
So I think we are pretty lucky to be in the AFL because I do know what it’s like to work, and it wasn’t that nice even though I loved my job.
Before I got drafted by the Swans I was playing for Swan Districts in Perth and working as well, doing turf management. I had to wake up very early - about 5am every day and that nearly killed me but I did it and I loved it when I was there.
Having a baby at home is a bit similar, so you just have to try and balance the time you have with the baby and footy.
I have just signed with the club for two more years. I thought why go anywhere else when I have it all set up perfect here. I’m very happy here at the Swans, the way they go about things and the opportunity I have got here since this club drafted me.
John is a good coach, he’s understanding and is willing to listen and he wants me to improve. He’s been giving me the message, similar to what Roosy did, to grab the ball and take them on.
I’ve been going alright this season but I can still improve a lot more. I was therabouts for most of the game last week but some of it I wasn’t. It could be a little bit of concentration, but it will be good to play four good quarters.
We take on the Dogs on Saturday in Canberra and we just have to work together, play as a team. It showed on the weekend we didn’t play as a team for the whole four quarters so we need to play for each other this week.
