Jude converts round 23 Play of the Day
Jude Bolton’s running goal just before the halftime break last Saturday has been awarded the round 23 Play of the Day…
Jude Bolton has made a habit of kicking vital goals for the Swans this year. There were his clutch efforts early in the season against Melbourne and Essendon, his goal in the third quarter against St Kilda the previous week when so many others were missing shots, and he was up to it again on Saturday against the Cats.
With two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the first half, Geelong looked to be going forward with Joel Selwood advancing on a loose ball on the wing. But, as was so often the case on Saturday, he was wrapped up in a ferocious tackle by Josh Kennedy which allowed the ball to spill free into the path of Ben McGlynn, who was Selwood’s direct opponent.
From there, the Swans spread across the ground, and a chain of handpasses eventually ended in the hands of Jude Botlon who was streaming towards goal.
Without breaking stride, Bolton converted the Swans seventh goal of the game - the last of the first half - to put the team ahead by nine points before the main change and claim the SwansTV Play of the Day for round 23.
The team didn’t relinquish the lead for the remainder of the afternoon and went on to record a famous 13-point win over the Cats and break their 29-game winning record at Skilled Stadium.
There were clearly some outstanding highlights in what was the Swans first win at the ground since round eight, 1999. They have been captured in this week’s ‘Handpicked Highlights’ package.
Watch the Swans try and add more highlights to their 2011 season when they battle the Brisbane Lions at the SCG from 4.10pm this Saturday afternoon. Click here for full match day information, including how to buy tickets and important travel details.
