The Sydney Swans will welcome back Robbie Fox, Darcy Cameron and Justin McInerney for their NEAFL clash with GWS at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday afternoon.
As Cameron last week nursed an injury on the sideline, Fox and McInerney were travelling emergencies for the senior side’s match against Richmond, but the trio will on Saturday bolster the Swans in their push for four wins to start to the season.
Sydney development coach Jeremy Laidler said he had underscored the importance of intensity in the week-long lead-up to the Round 3 encounter
“It’s just about effort. We just want our guys to have fun and give it their all to make it a really good contest,” Laidler told SwansTV.
“We know the Giants are a quality outfit; we played them a few times in the pre-season and in Round 1 as well. We know what they’re going to give and it’s always a really good contest against the Giants.”
Sydney has opened its 2019 campaign with wins over GWS, the Gold Coast Suns and the Redland Bombers.
The Swans enjoyed a 29-point triumph over the Giants in the opening round of the season, which saw them lead at every change en route to a 15.19 (109) to 12.8 (80) victory.
A host of QBE Sydney Swans Academy top-ups have bolstered the Swans in the early rounds of the season, and the young stars are hoping to one day join Academy graduates Isaac Heeney, Callum Mills, Nick Blakey and Sam Wicks on the club’s senior list.
Laidler says his message to the Academy players is simple ahead of the cross-city clash.
“The Academy boys have been really good. We don’t ask much of them; we just ask them to have some fun and when they pull on a Swans jumper to just enjoy it, play their part and bring defensive pressure,” Laidler said.
“We know they’re going to make mistakes, but as long as they keep going for every next contest and they remain confident – that’s all we ask of them.”
