Josh Kennedy is set to lead the team out as Sydney’s captain for the first time when the Swans take on the Kangaroos in Coffs Harbour on Sunday.
Kennedy was one of a number of senior Swans who watched from the sidelines in last Friday’s scorching intraclub match at Henson Park.
Luke Parker (knee) and Jeremy Laidler (elbow) are also a chance to line up against North Melbourne, after recovering from off-season surgery.
Aliir Aliir, Lance Franklin, Sam Naismith and Dane Rampe will all miss the match, but will likely feature later in the pre-season.
Sydney’s Head of Football Tom Harley says the training load of Aliir, who burst onto the scene to play 13 games in his debut year, has been carefully managed over the pre-season.
“Aliir Aliir suffered a medial ligament strain in the final against Geelong which he recovered from very well during the off-season. Since then, he has been managing a toe injury but has been in full training for the past week,” Harley said.
“We’ve taken a really conservative approach with Aliir. We want to make sure that we give him the best conditioning possible, so towards the end of the JLT Series is when we will see Aliir.
“We will use the JLT format to maximise our preparation both as a team and for individual players. We have a bye after our first game against North Melbourne in Coffs Harbour and will use the extra week to further condition the squad and as such expect the makeup of our team to evolve through the JLT series."
