Hundreds of boys and girls from schools throughout Sydney met in Peakhurst for the annual Paul Kelly Cup on Wednesday.
The Paul Kelly Cup is the biggest primary school knock-out competition in Australia, with more than 15,000 young footballers participating throughout the year.
The round-robin competition will culminate in a host of schools taking to the SCG later in the year for the Paul Kelly Cup State Finals.
Laguna Street Public School's boys' and girls' teams both won Wednesday's tournament in Peakhurst.
Paul Kelly played 234 games for the Sydney Swans in the years spanning 1990-2002.
The Wagga Wagga-born Swans champion is one of just eight Bloods Legends, he captained the Swans between 1993 and 2002, he's the Swans Team of the Century vice-captain and he's an Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee.
AFL NSW/ACT Development Coordinator Aimee Rainbird says the Paul Kelly Cup has an enormous impact on the rise of Australian rules football in NSW.
"We have kids participating today that have never played AFL before, so it's great to see them giving it a go," Rainbird told SwansTV.
"We have different schools engaged that we're not normally involved in, so the Paul Kelly Cup definitely helps to grow the game."
