Star Sydney Swans midfielder Isaac Heeney addressed the media ahead of training at the SCG on Thursday morning.

The Swans are steeling themselves for a clash with the Gold Coast Suns at the SCG on Saturday afternoon.

Here are some key quotes from the press conference.

The ankle injury Heeney suffered in the pre-season

“The ankle is okay. It actually pulled up all right over the weekend and it shouldn’t bother be too much from now on. I needed that bye round because my body was a bit sore, but most of the boys were a bit sore, and I’ve felt a lot better after the bye.”

Hot recent form

“We’ve been training really well and we’ve been building, and it’s just been a matter of finding that four-quarter effort. We’ve gelled really nicely and we’ve got such a young squad that inexperience comes into it, I guess. But we’re riding that wave and we’ve got to ride it for a bit longer.”

Finals chances

“There’s that ultimate goal of playing finals footy. There’s still a chance that we can slip into the top eight, and we’ll keep that hope there. Our percentage isn’t great so we’ll have to pick that up, but at the same time it’s week by week and just trying to get win after win.”

Preparing for Gold Coast

“He’s an absolute legend (former Swans assistant coach) Stuey (Dew). He’s doing wonders for them, they’re a quality side and they’re a really contested-footy kind of team. I reckon he’s doing a really good job even though results aren’t going their way, and they always seem to produce a pretty good performance against us, so it’s going to be pretty tough again on the weekend.”
