Sydney Swans ambassador Lauren Jackson is preparing to take the plunge for a good cause, in the fifth instalment of the Big Freeze.
Jackson will join a group of courageous celebrities who will slide into a pool of ice at the MCG on Monday, to raise awareness and funds for the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
John Longmire joined other AFL coaches in taking the plunge last year, in support of former Melbourne coach Neale Daniher, who was diagnosed with MND in 2014.
Sydney Swans fans can join the fight by purchasing a FightMND beanie at Sunday’s game against West Coast at the SCG. Beanies will be on sale on Driver Avenue ahead of the match.
MND is the name given to a group of diseases in which the nerve cells controlling our muscles fail to work normally.
As the muscles weaken, patients lose their ability to use their arms and legs, eat, speak, and breathe. There is currently no known cure.
Founded in 2014, FightMND was established with the purpose of finding effective treatments, and ultimately a cure, MND.
Since its inception, FightMND has sold more than 200,000 beanies and raised millions of dollars.
