Faster ball movement and sharper skills in attack has been a key focus for the Sydney Swans this pre-season, according to vice-captain Dan Hannebery.

The Swans have been ranked among the top defensive sides in the competition consistently and over the last two seasons have averaged more than 90 points for.

Lance Franklin led the Swans’ young forward line in 2017 alongside the emerging Will Hayward and Tom Papley who continued their development as small forwards.

Gary Rohan and Sam Reid have also been key players inside 50, providing strong marking targets as well as versatility for coach John Longmire.

Never content, Hannebery told SEN’s Time On that his side was working hard to improve its efficiency around goal during the season.

“I think every team wants to improve their offence and clearly our defence has been a big strength of ours and we want to maintain that,” Hannebery said on SEN Radio.

“Every team wants to score more points, get better and sharper in their offence so we are no different.

“We have definitely made some small improvements so hopefully we can implement them and really see some of the results when the season gets underway.”

Franklin has shown some of the best form of his career over the last two seasons on his way to booting 154 goals. Last season’s haul of 73 was enough to win him his fourth Coleman Medal.

Hannebery floated the prospect of the 2017 Coleman Medallist potentially improving on all that he has already achieved.

“He is clearly going to be a reasonable player for us,” Hannebery said.

“If we get the ball into our forward line a bit quicker than we have in the past there is no doubt he could probably get more opportunities and get better.”

“The same would go for all of our forwards, we feel like there is scope for them all to improve.”

Hannebery is nearing a return to competitive football having had an interrupted pre-season dealing with a calf issue but remains unlikely for the Swans' Round 1 clash with West Coast at Optus Stadium.
