Zak Jones and Heath Grundy have played their first official minutes of the pre-season competition as the pair look to propell their name in front of the match commitee for Round 1 selection.
Grundy did all he had to during a hit out with the Swans NEAFL side in a practice match against Greater Western Sydney ahead of the second JLT Series match.
The veteran defender played just over 60 minutes of game time as he eyes a spot in the side to take on West Coast at Optus Stadium on March 25.
Jones took part in the Swans JLT series win over the Giants playing just over 60 minutes and collecting 19 dispsoals and seven marks.
Coach John Longmire was pleased with what he saw from the pair.
"Heath played 60 minutes in the reserves and got through and pulled up really well," Longmire said post match.
"Jonesy played about the same amount of time in our seniors and got through and pulled up well.
"Those things along with playing a really good brand of footy at times are the sorts of things you look to get out of this time of year."
Jake Lloyd did not return to the field for the final quarter of Friday night's win over the Giants due to tightness suffered in his quad.
"Jake Lloyd had a bit of a tight quad in the last quarter so he didn't play in the last term," Longmire said.
"I just spoke to him and he said it feels ok so at this stage it seems we have got out of the pre-season ok."
Longmire now has to worry about his ruck divison just two weeks out from the season opener after the loss of Sam Naismith at training during the week.
Naismith ruptured his ACL and will miss the 2018 season.
Callum Sinclair (ankle) missed the win over GWS, leaving young big man Darcy Cameron to lead the ruck, but he was well beaten by the bigger-bodied Dawson Simpson.
It’s left Longmire with plenty to think about in terms of what his ruck division will look like ahead of Sydney's round one clash with West Coast in Perth.
"We've got Darcy and Sinclair, so certainly they're capable of doing it, and we've got other options as well," he said.
"If Darcy is needed I'm sure he can play, that’s why we recruited him, but Sinclair has played some good footy for us as well
"We can go with Aliir (Aliir) as well and we went with Dean Towers for five or six games last year. We'll just be creative."
