The Sydney Swans congratulate 2012 premiership player, Shane Mumford, on his outstanding playing career.
Mumford called an end to his AFL career today, after playing 172 games with Sydney, GWS and Geelong.
The Swans recruited Mumford during the 2009 trade period after notching up 21 games with the Cats.
It didn’t take the big man long to make an impact at the Swans, quickly displaying the aggression, skill and commitment that were the hallmarks of his game.
In his third season at the Swans, the rookie-listed player from Bunyip in country Victoria played a key role in the Club’s 2012 premiership winning campaign.
Sydney Swans Chief Executive and Managing Director Andrew Ireland said Mumford made his mark at the Swans.
“From the moment Shane joined us in 2009, he made an immediate impact and certainly made his presence felt on and off the field,” Ireland said.
“While he was a tough and fierce ruckman, he was the ultimate team mate and an extremely popular and fun person to have around the club.
“As a premiership player, Shane will always hold a special place at our club.
“We congratulate Shane on a great career and wish him, Eva and Oliver all the best with the next stage of life.”
