The battle for a ruck spot in the Round 1 side to take on Port Adelaide is heating up after all four ruckmen played in Friday’s JLT Series match.
Callum Sinclair and Sam Naismith returned from injury for their first match of the pre-season against the Giants, sharing the ruck duties with Kurt Tippett and Darcy Cameron.
The emergence of Cameron throughout the pre-season has put further pressure on Naismith and Sinclair for a position in the senior side.
The Western Australian once again showed his ability to have an impact around the ground, taking some strong marks and booting a goal when drifting forward.
“He has come across and had a really good pre-season which has impressed all of us,” assistant coach Henry Playfair said after the match.
“He moves really well as a forward so for that role he suits it really well.
“The sky is the limit really as we are not sure where he is going to get to but we are enjoying what we are seeing so far.”
Playfair said a tough call loomed as to who would be lining up in the season opener in just three weeks time.
“It is nice to have healthy ruck stocks available and all of them vying for positions,” he said.
“I thought they were all good tonight in their own way, in the air we created a good contest.
“They all put their hand forward and it is up to us as a match committee to pick which way we want to go moving forward.”
The Swans have one final pre-season match when they take on St Kilda in Albury next Sunday night to complete the JLT Community Series for 2017.
