Two fresh faces settled in at the SCG on Monday to embark on the next chapter of their footballing careers.

New assistant coaches Dean Cox and Steve Johnson looked right at home as they checked into their new surrounds and offices at the SCG, just in time to plant their feet ahead of the 2017-18 pre-season campaign.

After some meet and greets with staff and several players who have been working through their off-season programs, the duo got straight to work with an extensive meeting with their fellow coaches and the medical department to begin planning for what's hopefully a bumper 2018.

That will be the schedule over the next few days with Cox and Johnson given an opportunity to provide their two cents on the future direction of the Sydney Swans.

Cox, 290-game ruckman, premiership player and six-time All Australian, flew in from Perth as late as Sunday night to be ready for his first day on the job.

After nearly two decades at the Eagles as a player and assistant coach, Cox says he's really looking forward to tackling this new challenge at a football club he's had the utmost respect for over many years.

"I've always held the Swans in extremely high regard, as a professional organisation, the success they've been able to achieve and the culture and standards they've been able to set," Cox said.

"I was with West Coast for 18 years so for my own development, a change was needed, and I couldn't think of a better club to begin the next phase.”

Cox and Johnson, join John Longmire, Rhyce Shaw and Brett Kirk in a new-look coaching panel which saw the departures of Stuart Dew (Gold Coast senior coach), Henry Playfair (St Kilda assistant coach) and Josh Francou (Adelaide assistant coach) last month.

The development office has also seen a change with the addition of Tadhg Kennelly and Jeremy Laidler who took the helm from Shaw (assistant coach) and Nick Davis (academy).

The coaches will have two weeks before the players begin pre-season, with the first to fourth-years required back on November 20.
