A perfect mix of experienced heads and new recruits have been named to take on North Melbourne in the Sydney Swans’ JLT Community Series opener in Coffs Harbour.
As reported earlier in the week, Josh Kennedy will captain the side for the first time in Sunday’s clash at C.ex International Stadium.
He’s joined in the 29-man squad by senior teammates Luke Parker, Dan Hannebery, Nick Smith, Kurt Tippett and Sam Reid who'll line up for his first senior game of football in more than 12 months.
Reid managed only two NEAFL games in a season riddled by calf and Achilles problems last year. He returned to competitive football in last week's intra-club practice match, kicking two goals in a promising display.
The key forward will help guide a considerably young and inexperienced side which includes six first-year players.
Of those is Ollie Florent, the Sydney Swans' first pick in the 2016 National Draft.
Florent joins fellow draftees in Darcy Cameron, Sam Fisher, Jack Maibaum, Robbie Fox and Ben Ronke.
Former Bomber Shaun Edwards is also in line for his first game in red and white.
The future of the Sydney Swans will be on show with young guns Isaac Heeney and Callum Mills playing, as well as a host of other up-and-comers like Zak Jones, George Hewett, Dan Robinson and newly elevated rookie Nic Newman.
And, in one of the stories of the weekend's round, Irish rookie Colin O'Riordan is set to make his pre-season debut.
O'Riordan, 21, arrived in Sydney last summer as an International Category B Rookie and starred in his first season of football to earn a spot in last season's NEAFL Team of the Year.
The squad will be whittled down to a final playing list of 26 an hour and a half before the first bounce.
