Sydney Swans midfielder Isaac Heeney admits his side is disappointed by their poor performance in Friday night’s semi-final loss to Geelong.
The Swans season ended at the hands of the Cats going down by 59-points at the MCG in their biggest loss for the year.
Heeney said his side simply failed to play a full four quarters of football when it mattered most.
“It doesn’t feel like it is over because we were wanting to go on but that is how cruel the game is,” Heeney said.
“I am not sure how it happened but we got embarrassed.”
Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield got his team going in the first half courtesy of four goals in a shock move forward.
Heeney said it was the confidence built early in the game from the Cats that helped set them up for the win.
“I thought after the 0-6 we figured that out but they are a good side and on a roll so they got going and we couldn’t stop them in the end,” he told SEN radio post match.
“We came into it confident knowing that we could get over the top if we played four quarters and unfortunately we played one quarter.”
The 21-year-old said an elimination final win over the Bombers had given the team confidence heading into the clash with Geelong.
“I went into the game really confident but we just couldn’t put a four-quarter performance together like we did against Essendon.”
“It wasn’t great but we will go and review it and I think we will be pretty embarrassed.”
The Swans players will now undergo two days of extensive review meetings before heading on their off-season break.
