Sydney Swans recruit Sam Gray is abuzz as he sets himself for a new chapter in his AFL career.
The former Port Adelaide forward’s 96-game career will continue at the Swans after he was scooped by Sydney during the delisted free agency period.
Gray booted 83 goals in Power colours, including a haul of six majors in Round 23, 2017, and collected the club’s SANFL best-and-fairest honour in 2013.
The 27-year-old goal-sneak now has his sights set on resuming his career when he commences pre-season training with the Swans on November 18.
“It’s definitely an exciting time to join the Sydney Swans,” Gray told Melbourne radio station SEN.
“They’ve got a lot of young talent coming through and you’re always hearing about the culture up there.
“Within the last few days the boys have been texting me to say welcome, which is good. Buddy (Lance Franklin) gave me a message and it was pretty good to hear from him.
“I’m looking forward to getting up there in the next few weeks and meeting the boys.
“I’ve met (coach) John Longmire and chatted to him a few times on the phone. He’s a really good guy and really welcoming so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Gray played 20 senior matches in 2019 for a return of 20 goals, with his 28 disposals and four majors in Round 6 a stand-out on the stats sheet.
The South Australian was secured by Port Adelaide as a rookie ahead of season 2014 and made his AFL debut in Round 4, 2014.
