Senior coach John Longmire is wary of a new look Carlton side as the Swans prepare for their first trip to Melbourne for 2016.

It was a narrow opening round loss for the Blues as they showed strong form in going down to Richmond by just nine points.

Longmire said his side would be preparing for a tough task at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

“They have a different playing style (to previous years),” Longmire said.

“When we played them a couple of weeks ago they played well. I’m sure they’re going to surprise a few teams this year.

“We’ve got to prepare for their best (on Sunday), and we will.”

Longmire said the Blues were packed with young talent capable of challenging the best teams in the competition.

“They have a good system and some real young players so we appreciate that and will get onto the job pretty quickly,” Longmire said.

“Whether you look at Matthew Kreuzer, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs or Kade Simpson, they’ve got a lot of experience. Then throw in Jacob Weitering and Patrick Cripps – they’ve got quality depth.”

The Swans are set to make at least one change for the match with Michael Talia to miss the next two months with a broken foot.
