QBE Sydney Swans Academy product Jack Hiscox will make his AFL debut against Richmond on Saturday night under the lights of the MCG.
Hiscox joined the Swans in 2014 as one of four Academy players, alongside Isaac Heeney, Abaina Davis and rookie Jordan Foote.
The Swans’ second round selection that year, number 38 overall, Hiscox grew up in Newtown in Sydney’s inner-west and played for the Glebe Greyhounds.
Hiscox joined the Academy from an athletics background where he was the Australian 800 metre schoolboy champion.
While he’s an exceptional endurance athlete, Hiscox’s also quick and agile and has developed his game in the NEAFL under the tutelage of Rhyce Shaw.
Coming off a four-goal performance against the Suns, Hiscox will look to use his running power to maximum effect by taking advantage of the wide open spaces of the MCG.
Swans coach John Longmire says the clash against Richmond will be a great opportunity for the wingman.
“It’s terrific news for Jack, he’s a young player who has been working really hard since joining the Club from the Academy,” Longmire said.
“A local Sydney product, Jack comes from an elite running background where he was the 800 metre champion at school.
“His ability to use his endurance to get around the ground and hit the scoreboard, particularly in the past few weeks in the NEAFL, has been a real highlight and a reason why he gets his chance against Richmond.”
Hiscox has come into the team for midfielder Josh Kennedy who was withdrawn due to a minor hamstring injury.
